Muelle de las Carabelas

The Muelle de las Carabelas is a museum located in Palos de la Frontera.

In it are the reproductions of La Niña, La Pinta and La Santa María that were built in 1992 to celebrate the V Centenary of the discovery of America.

Throughout 1992 all kinds of celebrations were held as a result of the V Centenary of the discovery of America. Among them, Spain made a reproduction of the ships in which Cristóbal Colón, the Pinzón de Palos de la Frontera and the rest of the expedition, sailors from the area such as the Niño de Moguer, made the voyage of discovery of America. The three ships were part of the Universal Exhibition of Seville, although they were part of numerous exhibitions throughout After participating in all kinds of activities, -even in the filming of the film 1492: The conquest of paradise- the Junta de Andalucía acquired the replicas, within the framework of the Andalucía 92 project.

As a result of it, the construction of the Carabelas Wharf was projected in the Paraje de la Rábida belonging to the municipality of Palos de la Frontera, which was inaugurated in 1994 and is managed by the Huelva County Council.

Since then, the Muelle de las Carabelas has been open to the public, enjoying a notable increase in visitors year after year.

Thus, in 2007 the record number of visits was reached, with a figure close to 200,000 visitors, which placed the average number of daily visits around 550 people.
