The International Museum of Naïf Art of Jaén, known as the International Museum of Naïf Art "Manuel Moral", was inaugurated on 20 December 1990. It is the first museum in Spain dedicated to the naïf style, with more than 600 works by both national and international artists.
The Arab Baths and the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs are also located in the same palace.
It was created by Manuel Moral Mozas, a naïf artist from the town of Torredelcampo (Jaén), who donated his private collection of naïf art to the Diputación Provincial de Jaén, with his own works and those of other artists.
In view of the lack of naïf art museums in Spain, the Provincial Council decided to create a museum dedicated to this artistic style, and after contacting artists and collectors of naïf art, an exhibition was inaugurated in 1988, with a very favourable response both nationally and internationally. The artists and collectors invited not only took part in the exhibition, but also contributed to the creation of the museum by donating works of their own. In this way, the museum went from holding a temporary exhibition to establishing a naïf art gallery, with the sponsorship of the Provincial Council and the help of private individuals. This gallery was exhibited in only three rooms of the Palacio de Villardompardo, and was officially inaugurated on 20 December 1990. Later the museum greatly expanded its collections and extended to the four-storey building on the left wing of the palace.
