Popularly known as La Sartén or Los Redondeles, the Recinto Ferial de Albacete is a monumental permanent fairground macro-building built in 1783, unique in the world, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category of monument. It is the maximum exponent of popular architecture in La Mancha and the most visible symbol of the city.
Together with the Ejidos de la Feria, the Paseo de la Feria and the bullring, from 7 to 17 September, it hosts the famous Albacete Fair, declared to be of International Tourist Interest. Since its inauguration it has undergone numerous extensions and renovations.
Architecturally, it is a singular and unique building in Spain. Located in a vast triangular space in the centre of the city of La Mancha, it is shaped like a frying pan, with a circular body with a large radius to the west and an elongated, wide tail to the east. It is built with openwork rammed earth walls. The monumental main door - the Iron Gate - is 36 metres long by 25 metres high, is made of brick and serves as the entrance to the tail of the frying pan. The building, which is a single unit, has a tiled roof and is low except for the main gate and some of its interior elements.
This enclosure is of great importance in terms of the life of the city, as it is the venue for festivities such as the Albacete Fair, the Offering of Flowers to the Virgen de los Llanos, the celebration of an open-air mass in the Fair Grounds, the Festivities of San Juan and the open-air market of Los Invasores.
As a peculiarity, its interior can only be visited during the celebration of the Albacete Fair or during the celebration of some of the previously mentioned festivities.
