The tower of San Miguel or Cabo de Gata tower is a military watchtower from the 18th century.
It was built in 1756 by order of Ferdinand VI to protect the village of La Almadraba de Monteleva and its salt mines. It is conical in shape and replaces the previous tower, which was destroyed. It has two floors plus a rooftop terrace and the first floor is accessed by a staircase with a bridge.
After the War of Independence, the tower was dismantled and the cannons were left abandoned in the sand.
In 1941 it became the barracks of the Guardia Civil.
In the 1980s, a small wall was built with turrets at the corners.
It is currently in disuse, as there is a new barracks in the neighbourhood.
