The Rabia Bridge, a historic crossing over the Arga River, is located very close to the Navarrese town of Zubiri, whose name in Basque means "the town of the bridge". This emblematic bridge is part of the French Way of St. James, serving as access to Zubiri from Roncesvalles. It is believed that it was once a cattle track, which has given rise to the oral tradition and the name of the bridge, associated with the popular belief that it had curative properties for rabies in animals. According to legend, an animal that crossed the bridge and circled three times around its central pillar was cured of rabies, a power attributed to the presence of the mortal remains of Santa Quiteria, the saint protector against this disease.
In addition to its historical and cultural importance, the Rabies Bridge is known today as the starting point of the Zubiri-Pamplona Half Marathon, a race that attracts numerous runners and reinforces the bridge's relevance as an enduring symbol of the region.
