The mineral quay of the Riotinto company is a commercial quay-jetty for the material coming from the mines of the Rio Tinto Company Limited. It is located on the Odiel river, in the city of Huelva.
It is popularly known as the "Muelle de Riotinto" or "Muelle del Tinto" when taking part of the name of the concession company.
The purchase of the mining operations by the Río Tinto Company Limited (RTC) in 1873 and its establishment in Huelva represented a momentous change for the province: it activated its development and especially that of its capital, which went from being a fishing village to becoming the world capital of copper ore exports, so the need for new infrastructures led to the execution of works like this one.
Built between 1874 and 1876 to be able to load in the port of Huelva the mineral extracted from the Riotinto Mines located in the north of the province of Huelva. It is located in the southwestern end of the city, south of the Levante dock, with a total of 1165 meters in length partly on the Odiel river (about 500 meters) and partly on land.
It remained in service until 1975, when as of May the ships began to use a new facility in the nearby port of Huelva, estimating that during the years of operation more than 150 million tons of mineral were shipped from it. .
A few years later it was divided in two so that a road parallel to the estuary could pass.
