Tambomachay, also known as Tampumachay in Quechua, which means "resting place", is an Inca archaeological site of great importance, especially intended for the worship of water and as a resting place for the elite of the Inca Empire. This impressive complex is nestled in the Andes Mountains, just 7 kilometers northeast of the city of Cusco, which is equivalent to a 15-minute drive. Located at an altitude of 3700 meters above sea level, Tambomachay stands out for its intricate hydraulic engineering.

The site consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls that flow harmoniously through the rocks, demonstrating the advanced knowledge of the Incas in the manipulation of water. One of the most remarkable aspects of Tambomachay is the main waterfall, from which two perfectly symmetrical secondary waterfalls are derived. This design is so precise that if two empty containers were placed under each waterfall, both would fill at the same time, illustrating the sophistication of the Inca hydraulic system.

In addition, Tambomachay housed a royal garden that was irrigated by a complex system of canals, carefully designed to maintain the fertility of the soil and ensure the abundance of vegetation in this mountainous environment. This royal garden not only served as a recreational space, but also as a symbol of the power and connection of the Incas with nature.

Another relevant aspect of Tambomachay is that it functioned as a strategic control zone for people entering from the Antisuyo region. In this place there was a watchtower that allowed to supervise and regulate the transit of people and goods, thus ensuring security and control over the routes that connected different parts of the vast empire. This multifunctional complex demonstrates the Incas' ability to integrate functionality with symbolism, making Tambomachay an emblematic site of their civilization.
