The church of San Fructuoso, also known as the church of Angustias de Abajo or Real Angustia, is a Churrigueresque style temple located next to the Obradoiro square, which was designed by Lucas Ferro Caaveiro in the 18th century.
It has a central floor plan and a large dome. The façade is designed to be viewed from the Plaza del Obradoiro, so the decoration is concentrated on the upper cornice, where there are images of the four cardinal virtues, i.e. Prudence, Justice, Fortitude and Temperance (which popular tradition states are the four suits of the deck).3
It also has a bell tower adorned with scrolls and pinnacles and a niche with the image of the Virgin of Sorrows. Inside, the neoclassical Pietà by Antón Fernández or Vello, which presides over the main altar, stands out.
Its construction is related to the fact that Bishop Gelmírez brought the relics of Saint Fructuosus from Braga, which can currently be venerated in the chapel of relics in the cathedral of Santiago.
