The Cíes Islands are an archipelago, at the mouth of the Vigo estuary, formed by three islands: North or Monteagudo, Del Medio or do Faro, and South or San Martín.
The first two are artificially linked by a breakwater and naturally by the sandy area of Playa de Rodas.
They are oriented according to a system of fractures parallel to the coast in a N-S direction. They are approximately three quarters of an hour by boat and 14.5 km from the city of Vigo.
In February 2007, the British newspaper The Guardian chose the beach of Rhodes as the best beach in the world.
