The Burgo Bridge is a medieval bridge, built over an earlier bridge of Roman origin, which crosses the river Lérez. It is located on the route of the Portuguese Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela.
The first references to the bridge date back to 1165, when King Ferdinand II of León and King Alfonso of Portugal signed the so-called Peace of Lérez in the super flumen Lerice in vetula ponte, referring to the old Roman bridge as the old bridge.
Between 1953 and 1954 a major renovation and extension was carried out, with two lanes for vehicles and pavements on both sides for pedestrians. The idea of covering the pavements was also considered, but was not built due to lack of funds.
