The site of the Dolmens of Antequera is a cultural site of great historical and archaeological importance. This complex includes three megalithic monuments -the dolmen of Menga, the dolmen of Viera and the tholos of El Romeral-, which are outstanding examples of Neolithic and Copper Age funerary architecture in the Iberian Peninsula, together with two impressive natural formations: the Peña de los Enamorados, wrapped in romantic legends, and El Torcal, an exceptional karstic landscape sculpted by the erosion of calcium carbonate. The management and guardianship of this set is in charge of the Conjunto Arqueológico Dólmenes de Antequera, an entity that ensures the preservation and dissemination of this cultural legacy. In 2016, Unesco declared this site a World Heritage Site, recognizing it not only for its historical relevance, but also for the perfect integration of cultural and natural assets. This declaration covers protected areas that include the two main dolmens (Menga and Viera, with 3.6 hectares), the tholos of El Romeral (3.9 hectares), the Peña de los Enamorados (258.8 hectares) and El Torcal (2,180 hectares), configuring a space of extraordinary beauty and significance for the understanding of prehistoric societies and the interaction of human culture with the natural environment.
