Faro de Cabo de Berbería

Before the 1967 General Plan, there had been calls for the construction of a lighthouse in this part of the island of Formentera. It represents a typical lighthouse of those built in the 1970s, automated, with a catadioptric rotating optics and Dalen acetylene mixers. In 1995 new lighting equipment powered by photovoltaic solar energy was installed, but the original optics were preserved. The rotation system is now electro-magnetic, and the lighting is provided by discharge lamps. This lighthouse was in charge of the resident technicians at the La Mola lighthouse until it became uninhabited. Both lighthouses are nowadays remotely controlled and their maintenance depends on the technicians in Ibiza.
