The church of Santiago is a Christian temple located in the old part of the city. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument on 18 August 1972.
It was built in the second half of the 12th century, although it underwent later alterations.
Inside it houses two carvings of the Virgin, pregnant and breastfeeding, of great artistic value. It also includes Roman aras from the Tower of Hercules from the 2nd century AD.
The tympanum of the main façade, from the 15th century, depicts Saint James the Apostle on horseback, flanked by two male figures in the jambs: Saint James on the right and Saint John on the left.
It is a Romanesque-style church. The old plan had three naves and three apses, with the two side doors and the door on the main façade being of importance. It is on the western façade where we find the doorway, formed by pointed arches, with the image of Santiago Matamoros on horseback in the tympanum.
On the upper part there is a rose window, while the side walls are articulated by buttresses and two doorways formed by semicircular arches. Today the church has only one nave.
