The city square in Amsterdam is called Leidseplein. It is next to the Singel canal and situated southwest of the historic district.

It is one of the city's busiest nightlife areas. There are several clubs, restaurants, theatres, and movie theatres nearby. This square has been the site of the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival since 1988.
